Looking for something else...

I am absolutely loving this new line by designer Natalie Wood, Something else. Something Else fulfils Wood’s desire to combine creative disciplines, collaborating on collections with highly respected artists such as Georgina Cullum, Deanne Cheuk, Michaela Saunders, Skullux, Fontaine Anderson and Tara Marynowski. We are loving all of these new looks and can hardly wait to show the Spring 2010 collection.

Optimism for Spring 10'

WWD asked several prominent American designers their thoughts on the upcoming Spring 2010 runway and buying season and here are their reactions:

“It’s a heightened state of emotion. It’s a very challenging, exciting time, and you need all your wits behind you. It’s not the ‘same-old.’ It’s a complete wake-up call. It’s time to test all your assets.”  - Donna Karan

It’s a “moment in time when you have to enjoy what you are doing to the fullest. I haven’t let the economic climate affect the process or the pleasure of the creative process.” - Narciso Rodriguez

“I feel the economy has bottomed out in a way. The freak-out has happened, and while things are not back to what they used to be, perhaps they were inflated in a way. Perhaps this is a correction of sorts.” - Lazaro Hernandez (Proenza Schouler)

“Last fall, people still didn’t know where things were going, and after the shows, everything collapsed. I am optimistic because there is such a feeling of change in the air, from the new administration and the progress that has been happening, and the feeling that we are slowly coming out of the recession — one that could have been worse.” - Derek Lam

“You can’t disassociate yourself from the economic or social climate of the time. That is part of the vernacular that you are working with. I always said that it’s the reason why Laura and I wanted to design clothes. We are independent designers so it’s always a struggle. But because you are compelled to make things, you just move forward. This season is no different.” - Kate Mulleavy (Rodarte)

“People are buying, but they are still careful and cautious, and they are not buying things they already have. If I am doing a jacket, I have to say, ‘How do I make a new jacket in a new silhouette? I am not making another black coat.’” - Jason Wu

This is Avoca

Avoca is a great company that is dedicated to design, originality and quality. They are a family run and they pride them selves in being a little bit different, to being colourful and creative. They don't like to follow the flock so naturally their design studio is full of the quirkiest staff and lovely sideward thinking people.

Avoca began in 1723 as a hand weaving mill, making it Irelands oldest business. They still weave on the original site but today they offer a plentura of idea's from scents and socks to ceramics and candles, from slippers and spool scarves to rain macs and wellies and lets not forget their signature original blankets and scarves.

We are so excited to be repersenting Avoca in the showroom and can harly wait to order our personals for this season. We are in love!

Vouge and W Magazine Face Off : September 2009 Issues

The Vogue by Steven Meisel takes us two the world of the sophisticated upper-class lifestyle. This story revolves around women who indulge themselves in opulence and impeccable polish. It’s a wonderful editorial from those seductive silhouettes to those playful details, what’s there not to like about fashion from those bygone days.

The next editorial by the September issue of W Magazine dedicates itself towards a more flamboyant approach of the 40s era. Lara Stone, Guinevere van Seenus and Edita Vilkevicute spend a day out on a picnic and seductively enjoy themselves at the lake.

Fall 2009 Trend Report

In addition to the more ladylike platform pump, the thigh-high boot is still going strong for fall. The shape can be either super skinny (à la Rodarte and Isabel Marant) or relaxed and easy (per Etro and Dries Van Noten); obviously the latter is a little more forgiving.

Over the knee boot

Over the knee riding boot

The neckline of the moment isn't for the faint of heart, as it plunges nearly to the waist and turns the spotlight on your lingerie!  This said, we love this look of a peek-a-boo lace bandeau or a simple triangle bra. Note to self: purchase an American Apparel triangle lace bra.

Nylon Floral lace bra $22.00
Gloria V Bodysuit $55.00

Hows this for a statement piece

Take a look at these Michael Angel leggings from his just launched fall 2009 collection. These loud and vibrantly colored leggings promise to be nothing like ones we have ever seen before. This Aussie designer offers the leggings in two different fabrications- Lycra and mesh. Update: Check out Beyonce wearing Michael Angel in her Sweet Dreams video.

Get Cozy in Sweats

Sweatpants have never been considered the epitome of cool or chic but they are definitely my favorite thing to throw on on a rainy day like today. These free city sweats are a perfect example of sweats that can be worn well given the right occasion. These sweats come in a rainbow of colors and look great paired down with a little white tee and flats or flip flops.
